Privacy Policy
Cloudlings is a picture book app made for children aged 3 to 6 and the grown-ups who read with them. This policy explains, in plain language, what happens to information in the app.
The short version
- No ads, no tracking and no third-party code.
- To count installs and offer updates, the app's update check sends a random device number and basic device details. They are never used for ads or sold, and are not shared with anyone except Alibaba Cloud, which hosts our server. They are deleted after 400 days without a check (backup copies about 4 months later).
- No accounts and no sign-in.
- Reader data stays on your device.
What the app keeps on your device
Reader names and avatars chosen by a grown-up, reading progress, quiz scores, collected words, badges, today's reading time (for the daily reading limit) and app settings are stored only in the app's storage on your device. They are never sent to us. Like other app data, they are included in your own iCloud or computer backups of the device.
What we collect: the update check
Each time the app starts, and from time to time when it is opened again, it asks our server whether a newer version is available. Each check sends a random number that the app creates for this device, plus the app version and build number, the system name and version, the device model (for example iPhone15,4), the device type (such as phone or tablet), the app language, the story language and the region setting. It sends no names, no reader information and nothing about what is read.
How we use it
We use this information only to count installs and active devices, to see which app versions, devices and languages we need to support, and to decide whether to show an update notice. We look only at totals, such as how many devices use each version. It is not used for advertising or sold, and it is not shared with anyone except Alibaba Cloud, which hosts our server and backups for us. The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising code. The random number is not linked to a name or account, so we cannot tell who a device belongs to.
How long we keep it
Our server keeps one record per device (the details above, when it first and last checked in, and how many checks it made) and a note of each day it checked in. A device's record is deleted automatically once it has not checked in for 400 days, and daily notes are deleted after 400 days; copies in our private backups are deleted about 4 months later. The device's IP address is not saved with these records: the update check uses it only briefly, in memory, to block too many requests.
Story downloads
The app downloads its stories and their read-aloud audio from this content server: the list of stories from time to time, and each story when it is opened for the first time or after it was updated. Unlike the update check, these requests contain no reader data, no account, no device number and no cookies. Like any app, a request also includes standard technical details (app version, system version and language) that are not linked to you. Like any website, the server sees your device's IP address, and it uses it only to deliver the files.
Server access logs are turned off or kept for at most 7 days, only to keep the service running and secure, and are never used for advertising or profiling. We do not combine them with any other information.
Where the server is
Story files and the update check are served by a server we rent from Alibaba Cloud in mainland China, so download requests, update checks and the device's IP address are processed there. The update-check records and their backups are also stored with Alibaba Cloud in mainland China.
Children's privacy
We never ask children for personal information. Reader names can be nicknames; no birthdays, photos, contact details or locations are asked for. Settings, reader management and external links are behind a grown-up check.
Notice under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA): the app collects a persistent identifier (the random device number) and the device details of the update check described above, and our server sees the device's IP address. This information is used only to support the internal operations of the app: counting installs, delivering content, keeping the service running and secure, and showing update notices. It is not used to contact anyone, build a profile or show ads, and it is not disclosed to anyone except Alibaba Cloud, which hosts our server and backups for us. No other personal information is collected from children. Parents can contact us at ytappledeveloper@163.com with any questions.
Deleting information
You can reset a reader's progress or delete a reader in For grown-ups › Readers. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device, including downloaded stories and the random device number. Our server deletes a device's update-check records automatically once it has not checked in for 400 days. Because the number is random and not linked to a name or account, we cannot tell which records belong to your device, so we cannot find or delete them sooner. 云朵儿童（Cloudlings）是一款为 3 到 6 岁孩子和陪读的大人制作的绘本应用。本政策用浅显的语言说明应用里的信息是怎么处理的。
简单来说
- 没有广告，没有追踪，没有第三方代码。
- 为了统计安装量和提示更新，应用的检查更新会发送一个随机设备编号和基本的设备信息；它们绝不用于广告，也不出售，除了为我们托管服务器的阿里云之外，不提供给任何第三方。设备连续 400 天没有检查就会删除（备份里的副本约再过 4 个月删除）。
- 没有账号，不需要登录。
- 小读者的数据只保存在你的设备上。
应用在设备上保存什么
由大人设置的小读者名字和头像、阅读进度、测验成绩、收集的词语、徽章、今天的阅读时长（用于每日阅读上限）和应用设置，只保存在设备上的应用存储里，从不发送给我们。和其他应用数据一样，它们会包含在你自己的 iCloud 或电脑备份里。
我们收集的信息：检查更新
应用每次启动时，以及之后再次打开时（隔一段时间一次），会向我们的服务器询问有没有新版本。每次检查会发送应用为这台设备随机生成的一个编号，以及应用版本和构建号、系统名称和版本、设备型号（例如 iPhone15,4）、设备类型（例如手机或平板）、应用语言、故事语言和地区设置。不会发送任何名字或小读者信息，也不会发送读了什么。
这些信息的用途
这些信息只用来统计安装量和活跃设备数、了解需要支持哪些应用版本、设备和语言，以及判断是否提示更新。我们只看汇总数字，例如每个版本有多少台设备在用。这些信息不用于广告，也不出售；除了为我们托管服务器和备份的阿里云之外，不提供给任何第三方。应用里没有任何第三方统计或广告代码。这个随机编号与任何名字或账号都没有关联，我们无法知道一台设备属于谁。
保存多久
我们的服务器为每台设备保存一条记录（上面这些信息、第一次和最近一次检查的时间、检查次数），并记下它在哪些天检查过。一台设备连续 400 天没有检查，它的记录会被自动删除；按天的记录满 400 天也会删除；我们私有备份里的副本大约再过 4 个月删除。设备的 IP 地址不会和这些记录一起保存：检查更新只在内存里短暂使用它，用来拦截过多的请求。
故事下载
应用的故事和朗读音频都从本内容服务器下载：不时下载故事列表，每本故事在第一次打开时、以及更新后再打开时下载。和检查更新不同，这些请求不包含任何小读者数据、账号、设备编号或 Cookie。和其他应用一样，请求里还会带有标准的技术信息（应用版本、系统版本和语言），这些信息与你本人没有关联。和访问任何网站一样，服务器能看到设备的 IP 地址，它只用于把文件送达。
服务器访问日志处于关闭状态，或最多保留 7 天，仅用于维持服务正常运行和安全，绝不用于广告或用户画像，也不会与任何其他信息合并。
服务器所在地
故事文件和检查更新都由我们在中国大陆租用的阿里云服务器提供，因此下载请求、检查更新和设备的 IP 地址都在那里处理。检查更新的记录及其备份也保存在中国大陆的阿里云上。
儿童隐私
我们从不向儿童索取个人信息。小读者的名字可以用昵称；应用不会询问生日、照片、联系方式或位置。设置、小读者管理和外部链接都在家长验证之后。
根据美国《儿童在线隐私保护法》（COPPA）的说明：应用会收集一个持久标识符（即随机设备编号）和上面所说的检查更新附带的设备信息，我们的服务器也能看到设备的 IP 地址。这些信息只用于支持应用的内部运营：统计安装量、分发内容、维持服务正常运行和安全、提示更新。它们不会用来联系任何人、建立画像或投放广告，除了为我们托管服务器和备份的阿里云之外，不会提供给任何人。除此之外，我们不会收集儿童的任何其他个人信息。家长如有任何问题，可以发邮件到 ytappledeveloper@163.com 联系我们。
删除信息
你可以在“家长专区 › 小读者”里重置某位小读者的进度，或删除这位小读者。删除应用会清除它在设备上保存的全部内容，包括已下载的故事和随机设备编号。一台设备连续 400 天没有检查更新，我们的服务器会自动删除它的检查更新记录。由于这个编号是随机的，和名字或账号都没有关联，我们无法分辨哪些记录属于你的设备，所以也无法提前查找或删除。如有疑问，请发邮件到 ytappledeveloper@163.com。
